The Department currently offers a PhD programme in the disciplines of Cognitive Science, Literature, Philosophy, Sociology and Social Anthropology, with specialisations in various areas. The programme includes rigorous coursework and individual research work. All selected candidates are eligible to receive fellowship as per the institute norms.

Applications are open for a limited period twice a year for admission to the Summer and Winter semesters. The specific areas of study for PhD research vary every semester.
